Welcome!

Welcome to the learning4housing blog. I will be posting my thoughts and opinions on a range of issues facing the social housing sector. You are more than welcome to post your comments, whether you agree or disagree on the points. The aim here is to stimulate some debate on these issues, whether they are about current government policy or about best practice in housing management or strategy.

Learning4housing

We cover a wide range of subject areas, including anti-social behaviour, homelessness, resident involvement, void control, choice-based lettings, and complaints management, as well as personal skills development around communication, negotiation, assertiveness, influencing, managing people, etc. Please visit the main website for more information at www.learning4housing.co.uk

What we do at learning4housing....

At learning4housing, we have a passion for housing and a passion for learning. We believe that people living in social housing have a right to receive excellent services and that people who work in the sector have a right to develop the skills, knowledge and ability to deliver these services. That's where we come in. Our aim is to assist in this process by developing courses, workshops, and programmes which are designed to deliver excellence. We don't claim to be experts in everything, so we don't cover all housing subects, unlike some training providers. We specialise in the areas where we know we can deliver with confidence and accuracy.

We tend to concentrate on three key areas of learning; housing management, customer service and personal skills development. Below are examples of some of the courses and workshops that can be provided. If you don't see what you need, please get in touch and we can discuss your needs.

1.      Housing Management:
  • Anti Social Behaviour
  • Resident involvement
  • Void control
  • Income management
  • Estate management

2.      Customer Service:
  • Delivering Excellent Customer Service
  • Effective Complaints Management
  • Dealing with 'Challenging' Customers

3.      Personal Skills Development:
  • Effective Communication
  • Listening and Empathy
  • Assertive Behaviour
  • Time Management
  • Project Management
  • Presentation Skills

All programmes are delivered in an informal workshop style, with a high level of interaction, discussion and fun! We aim to challenge prior assumptions and to encourage participants to reflect on the subject and their learning. We also give considerable emphasis to ensuring the learning is embedded and results in changes at the workplace. Pre and post training exercises can assist in this process, together with detailed action planning.

All our programmes are suitable for housing staff, board members and tenants, and again, the content and delivery can be specifically tailored to the needs of those attending.

How it works....

Once you have booked your chosen subject, we will discuss your specific needs with you before starting to design your learning programme. If you wish, we can visit you to enable you to be confident in our approach to your needs. We will then begin to design learning materials, which will focus on your particular requirements, and will be tailored to the current skills/knowledge level in your organisation and will be based upon a realistic expectation of how these can be developed further. Drafts of all material can be made available in advance for your prior approval before being finalised. All we ask of you is to provide a suitable venue and refreshments (and of course the people to attend!).

We will organise everything else - the facilitator, the handouts, any pre-training exercises, and a follow-up exercise after the training. We will give you an all-in price whch will include all expenses and fees, so you know in advance what you are paying. The number of participants for any event could range from 8 to 18 - and we are happy to negotiate around these numbers if required. Some smaller organisations work in partnership with neighbouring bodies to build up a cost-effective number, which can reduce your direct costs dramatically.

If you already use a different training provider, why not consider contacting learning4housing next time you commission any training?  We would be happy to discuss how we can help.

All training and workshops are facilitated by David Wardle. David has over 30 years experience in working in the social housing sector, both as a front-line officer and also as a strategic manager. David is a very experienced trainer, tutor and consultant who is committed to providing you with the best quality services which meet your specific needs and requirements.
